Did you know? » Wooden buildings store carbon

Buildings made of pine can lock up carbon for decades – even centuries!

Building with wood from our sustainable pine plantations is a win-win for the environment – and it's getting better.

We can build our homes and other buildings with wood grown sustainably here in New Zealand.

The processing and preparation of wood for use in building generally creates much lower carbon emissions than other materials.

Our scientists are continually improving the way we work with wood to make it stronger and more versatile for use in our buildings.

When we build with wood, it continues to store a lot of the carbon held in the trees while they were growing, instead of releasing it back into the air.

This beautiful building is the Nelson Airport Terminal.
