Pine trees make up around 90% of the trees we grow for wood

We call these trees we plant for their wood 'exotics'. That's because they don't come from New Zealand originally. They were brought here specially to be grown for wood and other products.

Pine trees are easy to grow in New Zealand, and they only take around 20 years to grow to be 'adult' trees that are ready to cut down. A lot of our native or indigenous trees take nearly 100 years!
